An ideal first qualification for students considering a career in garden design or garden maintenance. This 6-module online home study course provides a comprehensive introduction to the principles of garden planning, establishment and maintenance.
This is also an excellent choice for the keen amateur gardener who would like to learn more about garden planning and maintenance, fruit and vegetable growing and protected growing.
RHS qualifications are widely regarded throughout the industry and a great starting point for students considering a career change. They are also an excellent foundation for higher level study.
The course includes all required study material, supplementary reading and full tutorial support. The course work is delivered directly to your email address as pdf files. However you can also add printed workbooks to your order. Each module includes an assignment closely based on actual exam papers. At the end of the course you will be ready to sit the RHS Certificate in Principles of Garden Planning, Establishment and Maintenance, which you can do at an authorised examination centre in your area. (There is an additional fee for the examination.)

Module 1 – Garden Planning: Understanding garden features and garden planning
Module 2 – Selecting the Right Plants: Understanding the choice, establishment and maintenance of garden plants, designing planting plans.
Module 3 – Accessibility and Sustainability: Garden design for clients with mobility or impaired vision,
sustainable practices in garden design and construction, water features.
Module 4 – Establishing and Maintaining the Lawn: Lawn establishment and care, alternative surfaces, sports and recreation areas.
Module 5 – Growing Fruit and Vegetables: Understanding the production of outdoor vegetables and fruit.
Module 6 – Protected Growing and Plant Cultivation: Understanding protected environments and their use in plant cultivation.
The full qualification has a credit value of 14. This equates to 140 learning hours.
